Google?s newest venture, Google Shopping Express, will compete with Amazon Prime, a service of free two-day shipping on all eligible purchases, for a flat annual fee, as well as discounted one-day shipping rates. According to one TechCrunch source the service will be $10 or $15 cheaper than Amazon Prime, so $69 or $64 a year and offer same-day delivery from brick-and-mortar stores like Target, Walmart, Walgreens and Safeway (though no specifics were mentioned by our sources).
Currently if you have ?an?Amazon Prime?account, $79 a year can get you access to a library of stream movies and TV shows, e-books that can be downloaded to your?Kindle, and free two-day shipping on a large portion of the stuff Amazon sells.?
Potentially, when the product launches it will compete with Amazon Prime, eBay Now, Postmates???Get It Now??and even smaller start-ups like?Instacart.
It has been reported recently, that the project is being run by Google?s e-commerce product manager?Tom Fallows and is a step forward in Google?s e-commerce initiatives.
According to TechCrunch, ?The project is Google Wallet and Google Shopping need a focal point, and serving as a??store shelf??to big-name retailers could be that in. Google has been?scrambling?for a way to capitalize on its advantages in the space ? the fact that it?s arguably one of the first places people visit when they want to find a product ? for a while.?
Theoretically, if Google Shopping express debuts they will have the opportunity to capitalize on recent acquisitions such as, BufferBox and Channel Intelligence, to help with the rising popularity of the new site.
Rumor has it, that Google employees are already trying out the service, but a launch date in still?unknown.
