Ways To Build Online Traffic With Internet Marketing | noble ...

There is so much information about marketing your business on the Internet. Whether this is new information is new, or just a new way of looking at an old problem, hopefully you will learn something from this article. No matter how advanced you are, more information will help you to become a better marketer. This article was written to help you succeed with that!

If you?re looking to persuade others to link to your site, make it easy and attractive for them by having an attractive ?Link to Us? button created and available. Making it easy for customers to see and use your button will encourage more traffic to your own website.

Market your business through your email. Come up with informative, intriguing newsletters for your customers. Your goal is to give subscribers the feeling that your emails are useful to them, not spam messages. Sending something to your customers on a regular basis ensures that you are kept in their minds, just be sure to not over-do it.

TIP! Add content in the form of a blog or forum to prevent your website from becoming boring or irrelevant. Search engines want fresh content, and if you have a site lacking in that area then there is an excellent chance your site will fall in the rankings.

Your website should look and perform in a professional manner. Testing your links, images, ads and checkout process for errors can avoid upsetting visitors. No one wants to shop at a business that is poorly tended, looks outdated and doesn?t put much effort into their appearance.

Get feedback at every stage. This can be critical to the success of your venture, since others may perceive the looks of your site and the pricing very differently than you perceive them. Accept feedback from your family, clients or peers. Take any and all feedback to heart, and do not fear making necessary changes.

A frequently-asked questions page (FAQ) makes an excellent model for your Online marketing content. Take the time to develop questions that allow for answers full of product suggestions. Try to write in a relaxed manner, and mention your products without seeming to force them on your reader.

TIP! Send related items and catalogs to your customers. They are more likely to make purchases from you if a previous order went well.

Hopefully, you have a new idea or have remembered something you want to use in your website marketing plan from this article. Apply what fits your circumstances. Continue to sharpen your marketing skills!

All In The Family: MyHeritage Buys Former Yammer Stablemate Geni.com In An 8-Figure Deal, Raises $25M

myheritageA big day for online genealogy sites: MyHeritage, an Israel-based site that lets people research and share their family histories, has raised $25 million in new funding, and it has bought out one of its longest-standing rivals, Geni.com -- the company that originally begat Yammer, which now owned by Microsoft. The purchase was an eight-figure deal in cash and equity, according to MyHeritage investor Index. And it is not only an acqui-hire -- Geni.com engineers and other employees will join MyHeritage -- but a data-cquisition: it gives MyHeritage "billions more global records and connecting millions more of our users," the company says.

This easy Christmas craft was a HUGE hit in our home! Little Brother was content playing with a piece of tissue paper while Big Brother made most of the wreath all by himself! I enjoyed working on this with my boys and loved that the products arrived at our door? THAT WAS GENUIS!

Thanks The Studio, we look forward to many more projects together as a family from your site!

100% How to Survive a Plague

All Critics (45) | Top Critics (22) | Fresh (44) | Rotten (0)

A raw history, often cluttered and sometimes repetitive but, when strategies fail along with immune systems, deeply affecting.

Presents a valuable template for how grassroots activism can temper societal prejudice and challenge governmental indifference in the face of a mysterious and remorseless killer.

[A] powerful, messy and tremendously moving documentary ...

"How to Survive a Plague" captures a saddening, maddening era that seems like far too many lifetimes ago.

It can feel inchoate, dropping the viewer in the middle of events without much context, and it exacts an emotional toll. But its raw quality also makes it compelling viewing.

Plague isn't the history of a disease so much as the history of a movement, and a portrait of those who refused to suffer passively.

Beautifully inspiring and, obviously, also a great cautionary tale.

A riveting look at LGBT protesters during the AIDS crisis - and an object lesson that if the revolution is going to be televised, it's good to have the revolutionaries holding the cameras.

This is a moving documentary, as hopeful as it is tragic.

A serious, moving and sometimes astonishingly well-organized documentary about the history of AIDS activism.

The title doesn't necessarily convey this, but "How to Survive a Plague" is an inspiring and hopeful documentary.

[An] unflinching look at the activists' mistakes and acheivements, their regrets, their very solemn pride at a victory attained at so high a cost.

Ultimately, the story presented by the former reporter for Boston's defunct Gay Community News is one of hope.

At once a fascinating history and a compelling call to action.

This amazingly well-done, admirably dry-eyed documentary about a true human victory over what was once a universal death sentence might well be the year's finest.

... compelling as a recent historical document, but also has contemporary resonance in its depiction of the influence of activism on social causes.

LeBron, Knicks top NBA jersey-sale lists

MIAMI (AP) ? LeBron James is atop the NBA's jersey-sales list once again.

The Miami Heat star has the league's hottest-selling jersey, marking the third time the NBA's reigning MVP and Finals MVP has held that distinction. James was No. 4 in the most recent rankings, released in April.

Since then, all he's done is win his third MVP award, a second Olympic gold medal and help the Heat win the NBA championship ? the franchise's second and his first.

"It's an honor to be No. 1," said James, who last had the league's best-selling jersey in April 2011.

The league released its latest sales-rankings list on Wednesday, with the New York Knicks leading the team-sales category for the first time since December 2004.

On the players' list, Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant checked in at No. 2, six spots higher than where he was in April and likely buoyed by the Thunder reaching the NBA Finals. Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers has the league's No. 3-selling jersey, followed by New York's Carmelo Anthony, Chicago's Derrick Rose, Boston's Rajon Rondo, Miami's Dwyane Wade, the Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin, the Lakers' Dwight Howard and the Clippers' Chris Paul at No. 10.

Brooklyn's Deron Williams is No. 11, followed by Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook, the Lakers' Steve Nash, Boston's Paul Pierce and Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki.

The list is based on sales at the NBA Store in New York and NBAStore.com from April through Nov. 26.

"I give all of the credit to the fans," said James, whose Cleveland jersey topped the league sales charts in 2004. "I would also like to thank all of my supporters and the Miami Heat organization. Let's keep it going."

In the team sales rankings, the Knicks were one spot ahead of the Heat. New York was No. 2 in the April rankings, with Miami then at No. 4.

The Lakers are No. 3 on the new list, followed by Chicago (which was No. 1 in April), Boston, Oklahoma City, Brooklyn, the Clippers, San Antonio and Dallas.

The NBA said it had record-breaking sales over Thanksgiving weekend, saying sales on the so-called Cyber Monday were up more than 10 percent over last year. Cyber Monday last year fell two days after the league and its players announced a tentative end to the NBA lockout.

It was Westbrook's first time on the list. Rondo and Paul each moved up four spots, and the Lakers were the only team with three players among the top 15 best-sellers.

Rose was No. 1 on the most recent list, released April 26. Houston guard Jeremy Lin, whose now-former Knicks jersey was No. 2 in the April rankings, fell out of the top 15.

Wi-Fi In A Nutshell Wi-Fi Wireless Technology Is 1 Of The Best ...

Wi-Fi in a Nutshell
Wi-Fi wireless technology is 1 of the best technological advancements because the Web. It provides mobility to computers and it is utilized in the office, at home and in public locations. A Wi-Fi enabled gadget such as a pc or smart phone can connect to the Internet when it is within range of a wireless network that is linked to the Web. It also enables communications directly from one pc to another with the involvement of an entry stage. Sadly, several problems can come up when computers transmit unsecured info to one an additional.

What is Cybercrime?

Cybercrime refers to unlawful activities that consider place online. These include fraud, spam, drug trafficking, identity theft, sexual predators, computer viruses, cyber stalking, spyware and phishing schemes. Although most people drop prey to these crimes at any 1 stage, you can stay away from them by securing your computer.

Stopping Cybercrime

one. Wireless Equal Privateness (WEP)

Install WEP because it authenticates anybody who wants to access the wireless network and encrypts all traffic. There are two variations of WEP, the stronger 128-bit and the more mature and weaker 40-little bit. The 128-bit version may be stronger but not all wireless devices on the network may assistance it. Even though WEP is not perfect and may be defeated with advanced software, it can stop unauthorised entrance doorway entry.

two. Select a Powerful WEP Password

Merely put, a weak password can effortlessly compromise WEP security. Its easy to choose a powerful WEP password. All you have to do it stay away from using sequences or recurring figures, personal information this kind of as birthdays and phone figures as well as dictionary phrases in any language. Use long passwords with mixtures of upper and decrease case letters with each other with figures and other characters instead.

3. Install Firewall

Firewall software prevents hackers from getting into your computer method so be sure to usually have this switched on. To access your firewall options, go to Windows Control Panel and click on on Firewall.

four. Turn On Spam Blocker

Web companies frequently offer a spam-blocking feature. Spam blockers prevent unwanted messages this kind of as fraudulent and phishing email messages from getting into your inbox. Keep the spam blocker on.

5. Flip Off Remote Administrator

Most wireless local area network routers come with a feature that allows the network administrator to remotely configure the router. Maintain this feature switched off unless essential simply because leaving it enabled could render the network susceptible.

6. Use Virtual Private Network (VPN)

VPNs form a personal network that utilizes a public network to link distant website users to one an additional. VPNs offer security as they use authenticated links to make sure that only authorised customers can connect to a community. In addition, they use encryption to make sure that other people can?t intercept and use the information that travels over the Internet.

7. Set up Anti-virus Software

Make certain you have sufficient anti-virus software for your computer. Some of these software include McAfee, Norton and Stopzilla. Putting in anti-virus software program is only the first stage in protecting your computer. It is important to do a as soon as a week scan and regularly update the software program.

eight. Monitor your Childrens Online Actions

Kids should only have entry to a pc situated in a central area of your house so that you can keep an eye on their actions. Regularly check all browser and e-mail activity. It would also be a good idea to use parental manage software that limits the kinds of sites that they can gain access to.

What keeps a cell's energy source going?

ScienceDaily (Nov. 27, 2012) ? Most healthy cells rely on a complicated process to produce the fuel ATP. Knowing how ATP is produced by the cell's energy storehouse -- the mitochondria -- is important for understanding a cell's normal state, as well as what happens when things go wrong, for example in cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, and many rare disorders of the mitochondria.

Two years ago, Kevin Foskett, PhD, professor of Physiology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, and colleagues discovered that fundamental control of ATP production is an ongoing shuttle of calcium to the mitochondria from another cell compartment. They found that mitochondria rely on this transfer to make enough ATP to support normal cell metabolism.

Foskett's lab and the lab of colleague Muniswamy Madesh, PhD, at Temple University, discovered last month an essential mechanism that regulates the flow of calcium into mitochondria, described in the October 26 issue of Cell. They found that the mitochondrial protein MICU1 is required to establish the proper level of calcium uptake under normal conditions.

In a new paper out this week in Nature Cell Biology, the same Penn-Temple team describe a new protein and its function. Like MICU1, this new protein, MCUR1, interacts physically with MCU, the uniporter calcium ion channel within the mitochondria. Calcium uptake is driven by a voltage across the inner mitochondrial membrane and mediated by the calcium-selective ion channel called the uniporter.

"But this newly described protein, MCUR1, has the opposite role as MICU1," notes Foskett. "It seems to be a subunit that, together with MCU, is required for a functional uniporter calcium channel."

Many cell plasma membrane ion channels also have subunits that are required for those channels to work. Before this paper, there was no realization that this mitochondrial channel, MCU, did as well.

Maintaining the correct levels of calcium in the mitochondria plays an important role in cellular physiology: Calcium flux across the inner mitochondrial membrane regulates cell energy production and activation of cell-death pathways, for example. In MICU1's absence mitochondria become overloaded with calcium, generating excessive amounts of reactive oxygen molecules and eventually cell death. In contrast, in the absence of MCUR1, mitochondria cannot take up enough calcium. This also has detrimental effects: the cells cannot make enough ATP and they activate autophagy, a mechanism in which cells "eat themselves" to provide sufficient nutrients for survival.

Both papers deal with the function of the uniporter, the calcium channel in the inner membrane of mitochondria that lets calcium get into the mitochondrial matrix where it can do good things like promote ATP synthesis and healthy bioenergetics, or bad things, like mitochondrial-mediated cell death, apoptosis and necrosis.

Because of these two papers, the uniporter is now recognized as a channel complex, containing -- at least -- MCU, MCUR1 and MICU1. Since the uniporter can be a therapeutic target is reperfusion injury, ischemic injury, and programmed cell death, MCUR1 and its interaction with MCU are now targets for drug development.

NetSafe Conference: Collins Says Kiwis Have Right... | Stuff.co.nz

Justice Minister Judith Collins says it is important that Kiwis retain the right to be idiots and make fools of themselves.

Ms Collins made the comment during her speech at a NetSafe conference in Wellington today, where she reinforced the her view that a hard line should be taken on cyber-bullying and harassment.

In doing so, she pointed to reports out of Britain this week where a woman was found guilty by a jury of racially abusing her New Zealand-born neighbour by calling her a "stupid fat Australian" during a drunken tirade.

Ms Collins said that while the Government was considering a range of initiatives and law changes to stamp out cyber-bullying, she did not want to see people's freedom of speech restricted to that extent.

"I don't think that's something we want to see in New Zealand. I do think it's important to retain the right to be idiots and to make fools of ourselves," she said.

"But when it goes too far, particularly the sort of bullying that ends with young people committing suicide, that's where we need to be very-much focused."

"So I am introducing a paper to cabinet that's going to be down the lines of dealing with the harms ... I think it should always be right for any Australian to be called a Kiwi as well."

In August, the Law Commission released its report on harmful digital communications, which recommended a new electronic communications offence for those aged 14 and over and the establishment of a Communications Tribunal to enforce apologies, take-down and cease-and-desist orders, and unmask anonymous offenders.

Ms Collins said the Government was considering establishing an agency that would be the first point of call for harmful digital communications between individuals.

"The agency would be responsible for mediating and investigating complaints, liaising with website hosts and internet service providers, liaising across Government agencies such as the police and the privacy commissioner and providing a referral to the district court if needed."

The law should also be changed to make inciting suicide a criminal offence, regardless of whether the victim actually commits suicide or simply attempts it, she said.

But Ms Collins added that freedom of speech would be protected under any law changes.

"Free speech is something the majority of internet users hold very dearly. In my view the new offence should not be aimed at censorship or speech that offends just because it is offensive."

"The proposed effects would only be for communications that are grossly offensive, indecent, obscene, menacing, knowingly false, as well as the most serious instances of intimate recordings taken with consent but published without consent. That sets the bar very high."

Ms Collins said she expected to put a final suite of initiatives before Cabinet next month.\

Why greenhouse gases hit record high in 2011

Carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas emitted by human activities, reached 390.9 parts per million last year, or 40 percent above the pre-industrial level, the World Meteorological Organization said. It cited fossil fuel as the primary source.

By Staff,?Reuters / November 20, 2012

This month, California?s largest greenhouse gas emitters began buying permits in a landmark ?cap-and-trade? system meant to control emissions of heat-trapping gases and spur investment in clean technologies. At left, an oil refinery o in Bakersfield, Calif.

Atmospheric volumes of greenhouse gases blamed for climate change hit a new record in 2011, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said in its annual Greenhouse Gas Bulletin on Tuesday.

The volume of carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas emitted by human activities, grew at a similar rate to the previous decade and reached 390.9 parts per million (ppm), 40 percent above the pre-industrial level, the survey said.

It has increased by an average of 2 ppm for the past 10 years.

Fossil fuels are the primary source of about 375 billion tonnes of carbon that has been released into the atmosphere since the industrial era began in 1750, the WMO said.

WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud said the billions of tonnes of extra carbon dioxide would stay in the atmosphere for centuries, causing the planet to warm further.

"We have already seen that the oceans are becoming more acidic as a result of the carbon dioxide uptake, with potential repercussions for the underwater food chain and coral reefs," he said in a statement.

Levels of methane, another long-lived greenhouse gas, have risen steadily for the past three years after levelling off for about seven years. The reasons for that evening out are unclear.

Growth in volumes of a third gas, nitrous oxide, quickened in 2011. It has a long-term climate impact that is 298 times greater than carbon dioxide.

The WMO, the United Nations' weather agency, said the three gases, which are closely linked to human activities such as fossil fuel use, deforestation and intensive agriculture, had increased the warming effect on the climate by 30 percent between 1990 and 2011.

The prevalence of several less abundant greenhouse gases was also growing fast, it said.

Sulphur hexafluoride, used as an electrical insulator in power distribution equipment, had doubled in volume since the mid-1990s, while hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) were growing at a rapid rate from a low base.

But chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and most halons were decreasing, it said.

The Accidental Locavore: Food & Drink Apps, Who Uses What?

Accidental Locavore Toque App Award

Once again, the Accidental Locavore has been asked to judge Toque Magazine?s second annual Food & Drink App Awards. It?s a fun way to get acquainted with a bunch of (very) different apps, that I might not otherwise search out.

Because this is the second year I?ve done this, there is a pretty good collection of apps (thanks, Toque!), almost all of which are still in residence on my iPhone. As I was looking at one of the submissions, it occurred to me that cleaning out some of the stragglers would be a good idea. It also made me realize that even the good apps, I almost never use. Which is not to say that I don?t use apps; there are several wonderful ones I would be desolate without. Here?s the rub?not one of them is a food (or drink) app.

Why do you think that is? And are you the same? There are a few reasons. To begin with, I tend to look recipes up on the Internet, and if it?s not something I?ve already saved to my recipe file on the cloud (Dropbox?a must-have app!). The Internet has a couple of big advantages over apps. First it?s much more comprehensive. For example, an app I was reviewing had a recipe for plum pudding (a Christmas must-have at my mother?s house) which looked interesting. I Googled ?plum pudding recipes? and came up with ?About 1,490,000 results (0.34 seconds)?. Since this particular app was very video-centric, even though I rarely watch the videos with apps, in the spirit of fair play, I also Googled ?plum pudding videos? and came up with almost as many videos for making pud (as its referred at Mom?s). So, plenty to choose from.

Accidental Locavore Plum PuddingAnother issue, is that you never really know how accurate or reliable the recipes on these apps are. Many of the ones submitted to Toque are translated from other languages, some more successfully than others. Steps are often missing and/or lost in translation; the same with ingredients. Any of my savvy readers know how to get their hands on some sheep?s tail fat, for example?

The other reason I don?t use a lot of these food apps is because, quite frankly, I forget they?re there. There are now close to two dozen apps on my phone that are either shopping lists or have a shopping list feature. So what do I use for shopping lists? The note pad that comes standard on my iPhone. It may not be elegant, but it?s easy and I can keep track of what?s needed for two separate houses and keep a running tally for the next Costco trip.

List making or tracking is actually what I do use food apps for, when I use them. There?s Oysterpedia that I occasionally use to keep track of oysters I?ve particularly like (however, when they have crazy names like Naked Cowboy, it?s pretty easy to remember, sans app). And Fromage is useful for remembering cheeses. The trouble with them is they?re only as good as what you put into them and that kind of ruins the pleasure of eating (or drinking in the case of the wine or liquor apps), doesn?t it?

Do you use food and drink apps? Which ones and what for? Let me know in the comments. And be sure to check out Toque on December 6th to see which apps are the winners.

China praises engineer in aircraft carrier program

BEIJING (AP) ? China's government gave hero's praise Monday to a senior engineer on its aircraft carrier program who died of a heart attack after witnessing the first landing of a plane on the ship, underscoring the project's huge national prestige.

State broadcaster CCTV ran news of Luo Yuan's death as its first item on the noon news broadcast, an unusual honor for a scientist who was previously unknown outside of the carrier program. Luo, 51, oversaw the development of the J-15 fighter-bomber planes designated for the ship, which is called Liaoning after the province where it is based.

The coverage illustrates the priority Beijing has placed on the program, seen as representing China's rise from poverty to economic and political might over the past three decades. The carrier was built in the former Soviet Union and is seen as a test platform for future Chinese-built vessels.

Few details were available about Luo, who died Sunday. A man who answered the phone at his employer, the Shenyang Aircraft Corp., confirmed his death but declined to give details. The company produces the bulk of China's modern military jets ? many of them, like the J-15, derived from Russian models.

Chinese academics assigned to signature government projects such as the carrier are often under enormous pressure, and stress is considered among the biggest killers of the country's intellectuals. China overcame major technical hurdles to make the carrier seaworthy after buying the half-completed hulk from the Ukraine and towing it to China, minus its engines, weaponry and navigation systems.

Most of that work was carried out in the northeastern port of Dalian, to which the carrier returned on Sunday following its latest round of sea trials.

Despite the breakthrough in air operations, the ship is still years away from being battle-worthy. China's navy still needs to show it can operate large numbers of planes at the same time and organize a carrier battle group that includes submarines and support ships.

"The first landing may be a milestone, but it's just the beginning," said Toshi Yoshihara, professor of Asia-Pacific studies at the U.S. Naval War College in Rhode Island. "How the Chinese will handle aircraft losses, which are inevitable, is a better indicator of Beijing's determination to become a carrier."

Crisis over president's powers exposes Egypt divisions

CAIRO (Reuters) - Youths clashed with police in Cairo on Saturday as protests at new powers assumed by President Mohamed Mursi stretched into a second day, confronting Egypt with a crisis that has exposed the split between newly empowered Islamists and their opponents.

A handful of hardcore activists hurling rocks battled riot police in the streets near Tahrir Square, where several thousand protesters massed on Friday to demonstrate against a decree that has rallied opposition ranks against Mursi.

Following a day of violence in Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said and Suez, the smell of teargas hung over the square, the heart of the uprising that swept Hosni Mubarak from power in February 2011.

More than 300 people were injured on Friday. Offices of the Muslim Brotherhood, which propelled Mursi to power, were attacked in at least three cities.

Egypt's highest judicial authority said the decree marked an "unprecedented attack" on the independence of the judiciary, the state news agency reported.

Leftist, liberal and socialist parties have called for an open-ended sit-in with the aim of "toppling" the decree which has also drawn statements of concern from the United States and the European Union. A few dozen activists manning makeshift barricades kept traffic out of the square on Saturday.

Calling the decree "fascist and despotic", Mursi's critics called for a big protest on Tuesday against a move they say has revealed the autocratic impulses of a man jailed by Mubarak, who outlawed Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood.

"We are facing a historic moment in which we either complete our revolution or we abandon it to become prey for a group that has put its narrow party interests above the national interest," the liberal Dustour Party said in a statement.

Issued late on Thursday, the decree marks an effort by the Mursi administration to consolidate its influence after it successfully sidelined Mubarak-era generals in August.

The decree reflects the Muslim Brotherhood's suspicion towards sections of a judiciary unreformed from Mubarak's days: it guards from judicial review decisions taken by Mursi until a new parliament is elected in a vote expected early next year.

It also shields the assembly writing Egypt's new constitution from a raft of legal challenges that have threatened the Islamist-dominated assembly with dissolution.

The Mursi administration has defended the decree on the grounds that it aims to speed up a protracted transition from Mubarak's rule to a new system of democratic government.

"It aims to sideline Mursi's enemies in the judiciary and ultimately to impose and head off any legal challenges to the constitution," said Elijah Zarwan, a fellow with The European Council on Foreign Relations.

"We are in a situation now where both sides are escalating and its getting harder and harder to see how either side can gracefully climb down," Zarwan said.

"INTIFADA"

A central element of Egypt's transition, the drafting of the constitution has been plagued by divisions between Islamists and their more secular-minded opponents, nearly all of whom have withdrawn from the body writing the document.

Mursi's new powers allowed him to replace the prosecutor general - a Mubarak holdover who the new president had tried to replace in October only to kick up a storm of protest from the judiciary, which said he had exceeded his authorities.

At an emergency meeting called to discuss the decree, the Supreme Judicial Council, Egypt's highest judicial authority, urged "the president of the republic to distance this decree from everything that violates the judicial authority".

Al-Masry Al-Youm, one of Egypt's most widely read dailies, hailed Friday's protest as "The November 23 Intifada", invoking the Arabic word for uprising. "The people support the president's decisions," declared Freedom and Justice, the newspaper run by the Brotherhood's political party.

The ultraorthodox Salafi Islamist groups that have been pushing for tighter application of Islamic law in the new constitution have rallied behind the decree.

The Nour Party, one such group, stated its support for the Mursi decree. Al-Gama'a al-Islamiya, which carried arms against the state in the 1990s, said it would save the revolution from what it described as remnants of the Mubarak regime.

Facing the biggest storm of criticism since he won the presidential election in June, Mursi addressed his supporters outside the presidential palace on Friday. He said opposition did not worry him, but it had to be "real and strong".

Candidates defeated by Mursi in the presidential vote joined the protests against his decision on Friday. Former Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa was photographed linking arms with leftist Hamdeen Sabahi, liberal Mohamed ElBaradei and others.

Mursi is now confronted with a domestic crisis just as his administration won international praise for mediating an end to the eight-day war between Israel and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

"The decisions and declarations announced on November 22 raise concerns for many Egyptians and for the international community," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said in a statement.

The European Union urged Mursi to respect the democratic process, while the United Nations expressed fears about human rights.

Black voters look to leverage their loyalty

(AP) ? When black voters gave President Barack Obama 93 percent support on Election Day in defiance of predictions that they might sit it out this year, black leaders breathed a collective sigh of relief.

That encouraged those leaders to try to leverage more attention from both Obama and Congress. Although they waver over how much to demand from the president ? particularly in light of defeated GOP challenger Mitt Romney's assertion that Obama gave "gifts" to minorities in exchange for their votes ? they are delivering postelection wish lists to the president anyway.

"I think the president heard us loud and clear. The collective message was, 'Let's build on where we already are,'" the Rev. Al Sharpton told reporters after a White House meeting last week with a collection of advocates representing largely Democratic constituencies.

Specifically, Sharpton said, that means keeping the brunt of the looming "fiscal cliff" of tax increases and spending cuts off the backs of the middle and working class.

NAACP President Benjamin Jealous aimed that same message at Congress, especially on where tax relief is extended.

"We need Republicans to think hard and to pull back from the cliff 98 percent of our families, who make up the bulk of this nation, from seeing our taxes being raised," Jealous said.

Blacks made up 13 percent of the electorate this year, about the same as 2008, while participation among whites shrank slightly to 72 percent and Hispanics increased to 10 percent, national exit polls showed. Black leaders point to that minority participation as they sharpen their calls for initiatives to address black unemployment, which was 12.7 percent when Obama took office, peaked at 16.5 percent roughly a year later, and stood at 14.3 percent in October. The overall unemployment rate is 7.9 percent.

National Urban League President Marc Morial acknowledged in an interview that "we sweated turnout all the way to the end," because the country's underlying economic conditions made it tougher to mobilize black voters. Within days of the election, Morial sent to Obama, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., an "urgent petition" asking that Obama's second term focus on economic opportunity and income inequality.

A jobs program should emphasize infrastructure and public works, broadband technology and energy "with a special focus on those communities where unemployment is and remains stubbornly and persistently high," Morial's letter said.

"We who represent the nation's urban communities will demand a seat at the table in these discussions," he wrote.

African-American voter samples in national exit polls are not useful for providing turnout measurements. Census surveys and other analyses eventually will provide turnout numbers for specific racial groups. But exit polls can be used to examine different groups as shares of the overall vote. And there, experts say, is where the evidence can be found of how much black voters delivered for Obama.

Nationally, Obama's share of the black vote was down slightly from four years ago. But in some key states, turnout was higher and had an impact, said David Bositis, an expert on black politics and voting at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies.

Blacks made up 15 percent of the electorate in Ohio, up from 11 percent in 2008. And 97 percent of those votes went for Obama, leading Bositis to say Obama's margin of victory in the state came from black voters.

In Michigan, the black share of the vote grew from 12 percent in 2008 to 16 percent in 2012, according to exit polls.

"Michigan was one of the states the two parties jostled around, and eventually Republicans decided they were not going to win, and one of the reasons was the big increase in the black vote," Bositis said.

In Missouri, a state Obama lost in both elections, the black vote went from 13 percent to 16 percent of all voters.

Bositis said the black share of the vote remained roughly the same at 23 percent in North Carolina, which Obama narrowly won in 2008 but lost in 2012, and 13 percent in Florida, which Obama won both times. In Virginia, which Obama won in both elections, black voters were 20 percent of all voters, he said.

Women and people from ages 18 to 29 had the strongest participation levels in the black community.

In 2008, black women had the highest turnout rate, 69 percent, of all groups. Their 2008 record created a sense of obligation among some black female leaders to take an active role against new state voting laws they said threatened to curb black voter participation. Black women made up 60 percent of the black vote this year and voted 95 percent for Obama.

The enthusiasm of black women was demonstrated in Florida when more than 250 churches marched their congregations to the polls as part of the "Souls To the Polls" early voting campaign, said Melanie Campbell, president and CEO of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation. A large percentage of the marchers were women, Campbell said.

"Countless women stood in line for hours to vote early so they could volunteer to work at the polls to help in the fight against voter suppression," Campbell said.

Black voters ages 18-29 made up 26 percent of the black vote nationally, a turnout close to what it was in 2008, according to the national exit poll. They voted 91 percent for Obama.

Republicans had reached out to black voters in 2004 and saw their share of the black vote increase in that election, Bositis said. But he said that in 2012, the outreach was nonexistent.

Michael Steele, former Republican National Committee chairman, said the GOP had an opportunity this election to connect with black voters on unemployment, health disparities, incarceration and other issues.

"How the heck do you win if you don't engage in the conversation?" Steele said.

Russian beauty queen puts spotlight on Russia's official corruption

Her public denunciation of Russia's corruption surprised some this week.?It also coincided with one of the Kremlin's periodic efforts to convince Russians that something is being done about it.

By Fred Weir,?Correspondent / November 23, 2012

Natalia Pereverzeva - a Russian beauty queen - spoke out again against endemic corruption during a contest in the Phillipines.

A Russian beauty queen garnered global headlines this week?by standing by her impassioned denunciation of the endemic corruption that demoralizes society and saps the economic life of her homeland, made in an essay she'd written that was supposed to be about why she's proud to be a Russian.

"But my Russia ? it is also my poor, long-suffering country, mercilessly torn to pieces by greedy, dishonest, unbelieving people," Natalia Pereverzeva?wrote in an essay that was part of her entrance requirement to the Miss Earth competition this week in Manila, Philippines.

"My Russia ? it is a great artery, from which the 'chosen' few people are draining away its wealth. My Russia is a beggar. My Russia cannot help her elderly and orphans. From it, bleeding, like from a sinking ship, engineers, doctors, teachers are fleeing, because they have nothing to live on," she wrote.

Ms. Pereverzeva's outburst was almost certainly spontaneous, based on her own personal experience and straight from the heart.

But it also happens to coincide with one of the periodic anticorruption crusades launched from the Kremlin to convince the Russian public that something is being done to combat the official graft that by some accounts?siphons off as much as a third of Russia's gross domestic product?and undermines the effectiveness of all government efforts,?from law enforcement?to preparations for the Olympic Games.

Recent weeks have seen the fall from grace of at least one top official, as well as the most sweeping set of allegations about official graft ? involving several government agencies ? to be revealed to the public in years. Some experts suggest that Vladimir Putin, now embarked on his third term as president, may be using his vast powers and political capital to finally confront Russia's most intractable scourge. Others argue that it's a public relations campaign at best, or more likely a cover for political score-settling among bureaucrats, which is traditionally the most common reason that explicit corruption charges surface in Russia.

Hard numbers on corruption

Whatever the deeper political truth, the facts about everyday official graft so far revealed are truly shocking, and they provide some hard numbers to back up Pereverzeva's emotional assertions.??? ?

How to Have Your Own Online Business | Business and Publishing

home business 9 How to Have Your Own Online BusinessSo you?ve decided to have an online business. Before you start having those big cash flow dreams, stop and get some tips for having an online business. There are many internet information resources for doing this sort of thing. However, the basic tips for an online business are very close to those of a traditional business. Here are some basics:

? Write a business plan and revise that plan periodically. Your business plan should be thought of as a living document. As with any business, you will initially find out what works and what does not work and will have to change your plan accordingly.

? Be very careful about buying webspace and pre-packaged website templates for your business (the ?we will build your website? people). You?ll find that down the road it will be difficult to change the site plus get source code to it. You are better off outsourcing the web design with a freelancer and purchasing your own domain and installing the site yourself.

? Make sure you follow all security measures when running a site that accepts credit cards for purchases.

? If you expect to receive a lot of phone calls, you may want to consider hiring an answering service.

? Run your online business like a business. You will need to discipline yourself with working hours to take care of all offsite matters because you will have them. A lot of people make the mistake of treating their internet business merely as a website, which can be very detrimental because running an online business requires an approach that you would have with an offline business.

? Your marketing plan needs to include search engine optimization (SEO). This is important because you want your site to rank in the top 10 of search engine query results. You would be wise to study SEO techniques or hire the services of a SEO consultant.

? Some other marketing ideas include posting your web address on the back windshield of your vehicle or coordinating with other websites to include a backlink to your site. Word of mouth is always one of the best tools for advertising your site. With the advent of Google Adword, Overture and other similar advertising, it is possible to drive targeted traffic to your site by finding keywords that have very low bids. You will be able to measure your conversion ratio of such traffic with sales in realtime.

Customer service is even more critical as customers do not ?see? you and building trust with them is a little harder. Performance builds trust.

Lazy Writing | SachaGreif.com

I recently launched?Sidebar, a new project (more about that another day). Sidebar simply gives you the 5 best design links of the day. So as part of the curation process, I get to see a lot of design-related content.

And reading all this content, I can?t help but see a trend: lazy writing.

What do I mean by this? I mean blog posts that do not require their author to do any research, talk to anybody, or (god forbid) leave their chair (kinda like the post you?re reading right now, in fact!).

Low-Calorie Blogging

You probably come across these articles every day. They feel right, but you don?t actually gain any knowledge from reading them. They?re basically the blogging equivalent of talking about the weather around the water cooler.

I?m not saying there?s no place for light, fluffy content. After all I?m not above writing an opinion piece or 10 myself. But we might be taking things too far: lately I feel like I can spend the whole day reading, yet not have learned a single new thing.

If at least these pieces were fun to read, that?d be something. But the rules of social media mean that everybody has to be nice all the time. So nobody wants to actually have an opinion or take the risk of being funny, lest they be misinterpreted and lose precious followers.

The Missing Links

Also, remember those things called ?links? we used to have? Those things that were the foundation of the Internet? Whatever happened to them?

These days, linking to whatever you?re talking about takes too much work.?Imagine that, having to actually find at least one specific example to back up your point! (note: this is the part where I would link to an article that doesn?t contain any links, but I don?t want to single out anybody? so just browse through Svbtle).

Good Writing Should Be Work

So instead of producing page after page of bland content, I wish more bloggers tried things like:

  • Show, don?t tell: Don?t just tell me what you think about app design, but also show me what you did?about it.
  • Be an expert: Tell me what makes you an expert. What are your credentials? Why should I care what you have to say?
  • Speak from experience: And even if you?re not an expert, I?d rather hear about your personal experience than your personal theories.
  • Do something: I know this will sound crazy, but have you thought about actually doing something and then blogging about it?
  • Provide examples: If you can back your opinion up with hard data, now we?re talking. And?if you can?t come up with stats, at least include some examples that illustrate what you?re talking about! I know, taking, cropping, and uploading screenshots is a pain in the ass? so just stop being so lazy!
  • Give actionable advice: We get it, you?re smart and know a lot about design. But so what? How does that impact my life? So how about providing actionable next steps so that reader can take action?
  • Have an opinion: if you can?t do any of that, at least don?t just write for writing?s sake. Stand for something! Who cares if you?re wrong, at least it?ll move the conversation in a new direction.

While this post is?admittedly?not informative by any means, I hope that by embracing that last rule I will at least help generate new ideas (or maybe just get flamed?).

P.S. As it turns out, it?s surprisingly easy to find pictures of cats sleeping at a computer.
