Lake Wales, Florida ? Susanne Moody Nicholas? was raised here in Lake Wales and graduated from LWHS, class of 91, She currently lives in Ormond Beach with her husband, Robert,? and 3 children. The family was devastated by a fire which tore through their 6yr old daughters bedroom. The bedroom was also shared with Susanne?s? 13 year old niece. The family also lost two beloved dogs. The fire was July10th, but the family is still struggling. The fire did not completely destroy the home, but smoke, heat? and water damage has made the home currently unlivable.
The fire started in the bedroom of the 6yr old daughter. The fire was determined to have started from a electrical spark.? The little girl? woke up with her blanket on fire & pushed it off of her and ran out to back door. Susanne (mom) heard a bang and went to check on the kids and found the child?s bed engulfed in flames. Not realizing her daughter had gotten out Susanne frantically began pulling on the fiery sheets to make sure she was not on the bed. The bang that Susanne heard was the little girl slamming her door hoping that it would keep the fire from reaching her mommy and daddy. As you can image the young girl was seriously traumatized.
The fire? destroyed the children?s beds, toys, cloths and the family has had to move somewhere else until the home can be repaired. Many items in the house were melted, burned or ruined by smoke damage. The family essentially needs everything for a new home. Friends and family have helped, but many items are still needed.
