Video games are good for you?
We always hear how bad video games are for your health, but the benefits are overlooked. This is because the media has only chosen only to tell one side of the argument (what a surprise). Matter of fact some video games are even used by our Defence Forces as training techniques.
Some key benefits of playing video games:
- Social interaction when playing online
- Increased hand-eye coordination
- Quicker reflexes
- Improvement of thinking on your feet with accuracy
When you think about it makes perfect sense. When playing games, you have to quickly asses a situation and decide whether to go and fight or to hold back and wait. You have to put your finger on the trigger button before your enemy does.
You can meet new people with similar interests to you while playing multiplayer games. That is if you?aren?t?one of those people screaming out annoying garbage or playing One Direction music in the background!
Video games are often used in hospitals to distract patients who are in pain or discomfort. This may also apply to people struggling with problems in life and may serve as an escape from un-pleasant things.
It is also amazing how fast and smart our brain is. When playing games as a sniper you may have to take into account; your enemies speed, wind, distance, downwards force etc. Our brain does this in seconds and decides whether it is worth taking the shot or not. This has to increase our ?brain-power? in some way!
While it?s true there are many negatives to playing video games it would be unfair and na?ve to overlook the positives.
Keep gaming!
