Members of the Class of 2016 have officially embarked on their college careers.
The first-year class arrived to Holy Cross on Aug. 25. They were greeted by 200 student leaders, athletic teams and alumni who helped move them into their residence halls.
First-year students are currently participating in a program of welcoming events, known as Fall Gateways Orientation. The events are designed to ease transition to college life by introducing students to the wide variety of academic, spiritual, community-building, and social programs available at the College.
Classes for first-year and all returning students begin on Aug. 29.
A series of social events are planned throughout the week for the entire student body, including a Hawaiian Luau-themed event on the Hogan Courtyard Aug. 25, a movie double feature on the Hart Recreation Center Lawn Aug. 26, and a dance party on Kimball Quad Aug. 29.

Saturday, Aug. 25
- First Night Celebration: Hawaiian Luau at 10 p.m. on Easy Street/Healy Hill (rain location: Field House). Food will be available. Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board.
- Chill Out Option at 10 p.m. in Crossroads/Game Room. Food will be available.
Sunday, Aug. 26
- Movie double feature featuring ?Hunger Games? at 9 p.m. and ?The Avengers? at 11:30 p.m. on Hart Recreation Center Lawn (rain location: Field House). Food will be available. Sponsored by the Student Government Association and Campus Activities Board.
- Comedian KT Tatara at 10 p.m. in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom.
- Floor Hockey Tournament from 10 p.m. to midnight in the Field House. Sponsored by the Office of Recreation, Intramurals and Club Sports.
Monday, Aug. 27
- Knockout Basketball Tournament at 11 p.m. in Linden Lane Courts (rain date: Saturday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m.). Sponsored by Campus Activities Board and the Office of Recreation, Intramurals and Club Sports.
- Campus-Wide Outdoor Edge Dance Party from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in Kimball Quad (rain location: Field House). Food will be available. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, ABiGaLe/Allies, Purple Key Society, Campus Activities Board, Carlin and Alumni House Council, and Office of Student Involvement.
Tuesday, Aug. 28
- Purple Key Society Facebook distribution and Ice Cream Social at 7:30 p.m. in Crossroads.
- HC?s Got Talent hosted by Orientation Leaders at 8 p.m. in Crossroads.
- 10 Spot: Foggy Bottom and Wheeler 2s at 10 p.m. in Crossroads. Food will be available. Sponsored by Campus Activities Board 10 Spot.
Wednesday, Aug. 29
